LOGLINE: When the security of their lives suddenly gives way, three women in New York City’s Chinatown find themselves pushed to acts of revenge and reconciliation. A sheltered housewife discovers that her husband has been leading a double life. A young girl finds herself trapped by the advances of her sister’s older lover. A widow plots to confront the man responsible for her husband and daughter’s deaths. Seeing Red is the collision of these stories, each character avenging loss in the name of love.

LISELLE MEI (Writer/Director)

Liselle Mei is an award-win­ning writer/director. She studied filmmaking at New York University, graduating with honors in 1995. Her thesis film, ANA: PORTRAIT IN DAYS won the 1st place Wasserman Award at NYU’s First Run Film Festival ’96, placing 1st in the categories of Directing, Production Management, Cinema­tography, Production Design, and Musical Score. It toured the world festival circuit, won the Empire State Award for Best Experimental Short ‘96 and a Student Academy Award nomination. Liselle’s next film, LOWER EAST SIDE STORIES was nomi­nated for the IFP market award, selected for the AAIFF National Tour and screened at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). It aired nationwide on PBS’s Real NY series WNET/Thirteen. Liselle is a recipient of the Women In Film Finishing Fund Award 2003, the Jerome Foundation’s NY Me­dia Arts Award 2003, a 2004 NYFA fellowship in Screenwriting and an Urban Artist Initiative award 2007. She was selected for the Berlin Film Festi­val’s Talent Campus of emerging writer/directors 2005, the Tribeca All Access Program 2005, the IFP No Borders program 2005 and Pusan’s PPP program 2006. Liselle is currently completing her next short film, A LIGHT TOUCH.

DEREK NGUYEN (Writer/Producer)

Derek Nguyen is a screenwriter, director, producer, writer, and playwright. Derek was a 2004 fellow at the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Lab for the screenplay adaptation of his play, MONSTER and a 2004 Screenwriting Fellow at the New York Foundation for the Arts. He co-wrote and is producing SEEING RED, a project at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival’s All-Access Alumni Program and IFP Market’s No Borders Program. Derek wrote, produced, and directed the short film, THE POTENTIAL WIVES OF NORMAN MAO, narrated by George Takei (Star Trek), which is currently on the festival circuit and has screened at the 2011 Cannes Film Market, Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market, and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. NORMAN MAO is currently being broadcast on DirecTV’s Shorts International Channel in their Best in Fest section. Derek wrote a new feature called BABY DADDIES, which he will be directing.
